OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of the Sudbury-Manitoulin Ethics Network (SMEN) is to serve as a resource to, and build capacity among partnering health service providers, agencies or organizations when ethical issues arise.
The network acknowledges the importance of examining an issue from a holistic perspective and through the use of guiding ethics principles. The SMEN does not make decisions, but rather supports agencies/institutions involved in a difficult situation to examine the issue by considering all perspectives and options. All requests to the network are treated with confidentiality.
The Sudbury-Manitoulin Ethics Network’s core membership is comprised of senior staff representatives or Ethics designates from:
- health care agencies,
- long-term care homes,
- community support services and
- post-secondary educational institutions with a health-care mandate
… in the Districts of Manitoulin and Sudbury. Members will have the knowledge, experience and mandate
from their agency to promote an ethical culture in order to meet the network’s objectives.
