OUR OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Sudbury-Manitoulin Ethics Network is to build capacity among partnering agencies, through education, support, discussion, and linkage.
Education
- To identify and address educational needs related to ethics within the SMEN membership.
- To foster cooperation and teamwork between agencies by encouraging the sharing of learning, the circulation of information and sharing of educational resources as it relates to ethical matters.
- To educate the residents of Sudbury and Manitoulin about ethical issues arising in the provision of healthcare within the resource constraints of the Network.
Support
- To serve as a resource for health care partners, as health care ethical dilemmas arise.
- To provide consultation support for agencies facing ethical health care dilemmas.
Discussion
- To promote the open discussion of ethical issues within the SMEN membership.
- Where requested, the network will serve as a resource around policy and practice.
- To provide a forum for discussion/debate around health care ethical issues.
Linkages
- To identify broad, ethical issues impacting health care and to make recommendations to address these issues.
Partners:
- health care agencies,
- long-term care homes,
- community support services and
- post-secondary educational institutions with a health-care mandate
